Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Some things families commonly ask before reaching out to us.

What is the difference between a wasiat and hibah?
A wasiat is a formal will that becomes effective upon death, governed by Islamic law for Muslims and civil law for others. A hibah is a gift made during one's lifetime, transferred immediately to the recipient. Both serve different purposes in estate planning, and during a consultation we can discuss which arrangement — or combination — suits your circumstances.
How long does the estate administration process typically take?
Timelines vary depending on the complexity of the estate and whether probate or letters of administration are required. Straightforward estates may be resolved within four to six months; more intricate cases involving multiple assets or beneficiaries can take longer. We will give you a realistic picture of expected timelines from the outset.
Do you handle both Muslim and non-Muslim inheritance matters?
Yes. Our team is experienced in both Islamic (faraid) inheritance principles and civil estate law in Malaysia. We are equipped to advise families across all backgrounds and help navigate the respective legal frameworks with care.
What documents should I bring to the first consultation?
For a legacy planning session, a copy of your identification and a broad list of your assets is sufficient to start. For estate administration, please bring the deceased's identification, death certificate, and any documents related to property, bank accounts, or existing wills if available. We will guide you on anything additional once we have a clear picture.
Are your fees fixed, or do they change depending on the estate?
Our published fees represent the starting scope of each service. If your situation requires additional work — for instance, a particularly complex estate or disputed matters — we will discuss this openly before proceeding. There are no surprises added along the way without your prior knowledge and agreement.
How do I know if I need a will right now?
If you have assets you wish to pass on, dependants you wish to provide for, or simply a preference for how your estate is distributed, a will or other planning arrangement is worth considering. A short consultation can help you understand your options without any obligation to proceed further.
